The Club

For nearly two hundred years, the Oriental Club has been an iconic Central London focal point for those who have lived, worked or travelled in the East. Today, a diverse membership values the modern amenities of Stratford House
and the attentive service offered by the Club’s Staff.

IDEALLY PLACED
Tucked away at the end of Stratford Place, in a convenient Central London location, close to Bond Street and within easy reach of Canary Wharf and the City, the Oriental Club is an exclusive Members-only haven.  The Club is ideally placed for meeting friends, family and colleagues for business, an evening out, or simply time-out from a busy day. The Club has forty well-appointed bedrooms, an elegant Dining Room with renowned cuisine, two Bars, a secluded Courtyard Terrace and Shamiana, Meeting Rooms, an IT Suite, spacious Drawing Rooms, a Billiards Room and Private Dining Rooms for hosting events and parties.

The Oriental Club treasures its rich history and the extraordinary characters who have been associated with the Club, since the Duke of Wellington founded the Club as the first and only President in 1824. Within this hidden gem, you will find the perfect mix of old and new. A place to enjoy exclusive facilities, this historic Club in the heart of London guarantees a peaceful retreat.

EAST MEETS WEST
In 1861, the Club's then Chef de Cuisine - Richard Terry, published the first Western Cookery Book for Eastern Cuisine, entitled 'Indian Cookery', citing that his recipes were "gathered, not only from my own knowledge of cookery, but from Native Cooks." These Eastern flavours are still found in many recipes. Today's Executive Chef - Wesley Smalley, has full-time Curry Chefs working with him in the kitchen, as well as cooks creating a vast range of British seasonal dishes using ingredients sourced mainly from UK Suppliers.

A DIFFERENT APPROACH
Our Members come first and are encouraged, as custodians, to nurture the Club for future generations, whilst embracing continuing innovation. It offers a vibrant social scene, excellent business facilities and a forward thinking approach to Club life.

Membership

The Club offers its Members a welcome retreat from the bustle of London, with Stratford House providing a convivial setting for meeting up with old friends and making new ones. With its unbeatable location, countless Members also use the Club as a professional base for hosting meetings and presentations.

MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA
According to the original prospectus for the Oriental Club, qualifications for Membership included serving under the King or the East India Company, living or travelling in the East or being in some way officially connected to ‘that quarter of the globe’. Two hundred years of distinguished Members have shared good times and confidences in the Dining Room and Members’ Bar of the Oriental Club.

Although Members still have connections with the East, the membership is more diverse these days and you will find that the Club is home to Members with broad views and a multitude of reasons for joining the Club. The Club attracts Members who live or work nearby and those who simply want to make use of the Oriental Club’s fantastic location and wonderful facilities.

Reciprocal Clubs
Another benefit of Membership is the Club's relationship with a carefully curated list of Reciprocal Clubs. Members may be given privileged access to exclusive Clubs around the world so that whenever you travel you may be assured a warm welcome.
